As a Master qualified and registered early childhood and primary teacher, I have spent over a decade working alongside children and their families within education and care settings. Throughout this time I witnessed the powerful benefits of play in supporting children’s overall health and wellbeing, and how play can be used as a catalyst for understanding the inner world of the child.

 

Despite my extensive experience, I felt there was something missing from my toolkit. I was driven by a strong desire to ensure that all children were given a space that felt safe and secure and was inclusive to their needs. I also had a deep desire to offer more comprehensive support to families as a whole. This led me to complete a Master of Child Play Therapy through Deakin University, the most extensive qualification of Play Therapy within Australia.

Through this study I discovered the incredible worlds of neuroscience, nervous systems, therapeutic play, attachment theory and trauma-informed care. It was like finding the missing link. I rediscovered what it truly meant when we support the 'whole child', and now I'm excited to bring this gift to you. When we know more about our neurobiology, and apply principles and practices of therapeutic play, we not only develop a greater understanding of children’s emotions, feelings and behaviours, but also those of our own.

My passion now lies in empowering those who support children—whether they are educators, caregivers, or family members—with the tools, strategies, and confidence they need to create truly transformative environments. I am deeply committed to ensuring that the spaces where children spend the majority of their time—early childhood education and care services, as well as their home environments—are optimized to support their growth and development.

I firmly believe that these spaces hold the key to transforming childhood trajectories. This transformation is achieved through fostering playful and authentic connections that promote emotional security, engagement, and meaningful interactions. By equipping adults with the skills and confidence to nurture these connections, we can create environments that not only support but also enhance the developmental journey of every child.
